The National Grid Service (NGS) aims to provide coherent electronic access for UK researchers to all computational and data based resources and facilities required to carry out their research, independent of resource or researcher location.

Do you want to use the NGS?

If you are an academic involved in research in the United Kingdom, you can apply for an account on the NGS. Access to significant compute and data resources across the UK is free to all those in the UK academic community - simply register using the Apply for Access link. Training is also free.


The NGS welcomes all new people who wish to get involved, whether it be as users, resource providers or members of industry interested in technology transfer.

Research: The effects of defibrillation on the heart

Thushka Maharaj is a DPhil Student within the Computational Biology Group at the University of Oxford. She is part of an international collaboration studying the effects of applying an electrical shock to both healthy and diseased hearts, in an attempt to understand exactly how defibrillation works.
